The portal software has the following major pieces that will need to be installed:<br>

<h3>SME Version 7.1 or 7.2</h3>
WebServices for SME requires SME version 7.1 or later.<br>

<h3>Install of .net framework 4</h3>
This should be installed first as it will require a report for system Operating systems.

<h3>Install of Internet Information Services (IIS)</h3>
IIS should be installed by using the Add/Remove Windows features, in all versions except Windows Server 2008. For windows Server 2008 you will need to use the Add Roles. It is very important to have the IIS 6 Management Compatibility checked including all its children objects when dealing with Vista/2k8 or later of IIS.

Install guide: http://high5software.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=SME_Web_Services_Installation_Guide<br>
The install files can be fetched from the following addresses<br>
32bit www.high5software.com/downloads/webservices/SMEWebServices_x86.msi<br>
64bit www.high5software.com/downloads/webservices/SMEWebServices_x64.msi<br>

When you run these files you must be logged into the machine local administrator. If you are told you do not have permission contact support.

During the process you will be prompted to enter the pathway to alias62.ini file. The file itself is located in the same directory as SME5.exe. All slashes should be forward slashes instead of backwards. If you are unsure if configuration file is accessible please contact support.

Once installed you should be able to open your web browser on the server and type in the following:
http://localhost/SMEWebServices

[[File:SME_Web_Service.png]]<br>

<h3>Configure Router to allow inbound communication from internet to machine running IIS.</h3>
SME utilizes MS SQL Server for the database management. MS SQL Server must be installed and correctly configured before SME is installed. SME is compatible with MS SQL 2005 SP3, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, Express or Enterprise versions. High5 Software recommends installing MS SQL 2008 R2 to attain the latest functionality for SQL Server. The free Express version of MS SQL 2008 R2 ‘Database with Advanced Features’ is available at the following link:

#[http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/InstallOptions.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/InstallOptions.aspx]

<br>2. Note: For security reasons, Microsoft recommends that you do not install SQL Server 2008 R2 on a domain controller. SQL Server Setup will not block installation however you will be cautioned against the installation.
<br>3. For installation instructions consult the Microsoft MSDN ‘How to: Install SQL Server 2008 R2 (Setup)‘ at [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143219.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143219.aspx]
# Installing and Configuring MS SQL Server Installation – MS SQL 2005 SP3, 2008 R2.
# Installing SME as stand alone or on an Application Server.
# SME Application – SME executable.
# Common Files – SME Database related files location. Typically this location contains the database. When installing the database on a server that is separate from the application this folder will be referenced as the common files folder on the Application Server.
# Client setup – configuring SME to run across the network from client computers.

'''Terms'''

# Application/File server – server from Which SME will be launched for client log in hosting SME executable. (Can also host the database).
# Database server – server hosting the SME database (Can be the same as the application server or on another server).
# Common Files – folder where data related files are stored. This is the default database location on servers/computers hosting both the database and the application.
# Alias62.ini – file containing the connection information allowing SME to connect to the database.

'''Steps'''

# Install or configure MS SQL.
# Configure the SME database for remote connections in MS SQL Configuration Utility and in MS SQL Server Management Studio.
# Configure MS SQL instance for ‘CLR’ Dot Net common language runtime access.
# Install SME on the Application/File Server.
# Create the Alias62.ini from the Application/File server while on the Data Server to allow SME connection to the database.
# Create or move the database either on the local computer or on the database server.

== MS SQL Server Installation ==

SME utilizes MS SQL Server for the database management. MS SQL Server must be installed and correctly configured before SME is installed. SME is compatible with MS SQL 2005 SP3, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, Express or Enterprise versions. High5 Software recommends installing MS SQL 2008 R2 to attain the latest functionality for SQL Server. The free Express version of MS SQL 2008 R2 ‘Database with Advanced Features’ is available at the following link:

#[http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/InstallOptions.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/InstallOptions.aspx]

For server requirements consult the following Microsoft website ‘Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008 R2’.

[http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx]

<br>There are a couple ways to create a new customer.

# Select New > Customer.
# The Customer module will open with an empty customer record.
# Fill out the record and click Save

Another way to create a new customer:

# Select the '''Customer module'''.
# Click '''New'''.

== Details and Settings Tab ==

On this tab, you can track the site, billing and mailing address using the tabs along the left. All of these addresses can be the same or they could all be different.

'''If the site, billing and mailing information is the same:'''

# Fill out the '''Site''' tab with the company and address information.
# Select the '''Billing''' tab.
# Click '''Set From Site''' (circled in image below).
# The address from the Site tab will populate the Billing tab.
# Select the '''Mailing''' tab.
# Click '''Set From Site'''.
# The address from the Site tab will populate the Mailing tab.

In some cases you may have one customer you are working with and you have multiple job sites for them. You can create a parent child relationship. If you do this, you could look up the parent company and find all of the related “child” companies.

'''To create a parent – child company structure:'''

First, create a company record for the “parent” company. Usually the information on the Site and Billing tab for the parent is going to be the same. When that is created, you can then create the "child".

# Create a company record for the “child” company.
# On the '''Site''' tab, enter the job site information.
# In the “child” record, select the '''Billing''' tab.
# Click '''Select Billing Company'''.
# In the window that displays, select the billing or “parent” company.
# Click S'''ave''' in the "child" company record.
# Notice the '''Full Name''' for the “child” company.

'''To see all “child’ companies for the “parent” company'''

# Select the “parent” company.
# Select the '''Associated Companies''' tab.
# All related “child” companies will be listed.

'''To add a contact to a company record'''

# Click your cursor in the '''Contact''' field.
# Type the contact name.

'''Status''' - This is a text field to type a quick message that is visible here on the Details and Settings tab.

'''URL''' - Type the customers website address

'''Location''' - Warehouse location for customer equipment in your warehouse

'''Messages''' - The messages box contains a list of emailed notifications, as well as calculated data based on current information. For example if account is past due, if maintenance/warranty has expired, when the next activity is scheduled for the customer, etc. Clearing the message clears the notification messages, but the calculated messages are always there.

== Account Tab ==

On this tab you will find your customer’s account information. Depending on the permissions set by your SME Administrator, this tab may be hidden from view. At the bottom of the tab, find the customer’s balance due.
